Cabaret du Néant, Paris-Montmartre (um 1920).
“Zur Zeit des Fin de siècle in den 1890er Jahren eröfnete erst in Paris und später in New York das Cabaret du Néant (Die Taverne des Todes). Vom Eingang begleitete ein “Mönch” die Gäste nach unten in eine schwarze Halle und in ein Café mit Kerzen auf sargförmigen Tischen, an denen sie Erfrischungen von Kellnern in Bestatterkleidung ordern konnten. Gemälde und Figuren mit Skeletten schmückten die Räumlichkeit. Während ein Trauermarsch gespielt wurde, geleitete der Mönch die Gäste in einen zweiten Raum, wo ein Freiwilliger auf die Bühne gebeten wurde. Er wurde in ein weißes Leichentuch gehüllt und ein röntgenartiger Effekt vorgeführt, infolgedessen scheinbar sein Knochengerüst zu sehen war. Im letzten Raum schließlich trat ein Geist live auf und umrundete einen weiteren Freiwilligen, der an einem Tischchen auf der Bühne saß.”

Ein Film von Bell System aus den Siebzigern:“The following is an interesting film that I obtained from a source that bought the assets of a film lab many years ago. It’s a film that he called “Bell Performance”. No beginning or ending titles, but still very interesting to me as Bell System nostalgia. We see telephones being created and stress tested and all kinds of other neat stuff. I’m not sure which of the Bell entities created this film - an Illinois Bell truck is seen in this film, but I don’t know if they created it.”
