This stunning teaser trailer from Quayola uses the Flemish collection at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Lille, with a focus on the Rubens grand altarpieces. Quayola’s custom-built software unpicks the paintings’ elements in terms of colour, composition and proportion. By scratching the surface he sets up an intriguing dialogue between artists separated by centuries and helps us re-evalute our relationships with world famous paintings. The installation opens in Lille on October 7.

“Peter und der Wolf” ist ein musikalisches Märchen des russischen Komponisten Sergei Prokofjew. Es entstand 1936 nach der Rückkehr des Komponisten in die Sowjetunion.
Die Bearbeitung der britischen Regisseurin Suzie Templeton gewann 2008 den Oscar für den besten animierten Kurzfilm. Die Fabel und die Charaktere wurden darin verändert, so sind die Jäger gefährliche Jugendliche und Peter lässt am Ende den Wolf wieder frei. Die Arbeit an dem Stop Motion-Puppentrickfilm hat fünf Jahre in Anspruch genommen. Prokofjews Musik wurde vom London Philharmonic Orchestra eingespielt:

Über seinen extrem amüsanten Kurzfilm sagt Junaid Chundrigar: “The whole point of making “Sheeped Away” was to make a tribute of sorts, to the old American cartoons I grew up with. They were not necessarily made for children but neither were they unwatchable for them. I wanted to make something just like that; something for both adults and kids. And adult kids like me. It was a difficult process of 7 long months, but with the help of a lot of awesome talented people, I made it. I can’t thank them enough.”

This short film of a 3-D rendered hand made by Ed Catmull (Pixar founder) and Fred Parke in 1972 might be the first digital 3-D rendered film ever:
The best part of this film is not even the 3D rendering itself, but the outtakes and “making of” footage that has been interwoven throughout, including footage of a plaster replica of Ed’s hand onto which he is meticulously mapping the polygon vertices that make up the three dimensional model (around 1:30). That’s really remarkable. The math that we take for granted for rendering 3D was being invented, real time, to create this video. (Ed’s credited for having working out that math to handle things like texture mapping, 3D anti-aliasing and z-buffering.)
