Das Astra-Gnome “Time and Space Car”, ein Konzept des Industriedesigners Richard Arbib, schaffte es im September 1956 auf die Titelseite des Magazins Newsweek und auf die International Auto Show in New York. Arbib modifizierte dafür den 1955er-Kleinwagen Nash Metropolitan. Das Bubble-Car war seine Vorstellung davon, wie ein Auto im Jahr 2000 aussehen würde.

Der Industriedesigner Izhar Gafni horchte auf, als er hörte, dass jemand ein Kanu aus Pappe gebaut hatte. Daraufhin baute er ein Fahrrad aus Pappe. Es heißt Alfa, wiegt 9 Kilo und kann über 200 Kilo tragen. Gafni hat das Rad so entworfen, dass es zu einem Preis von zwischen 9 und 12 Dollar produziert werden kann.

The Exide Sundancer Exhibit at the First Symposium on Low Pollution Power Systems Development, Oct. 1973.
The Sundancer was ESB/Exide Battery’s experimental electric car, and it combined the kit-car look and fighter-jet style canopy that was popular circa 1974. This compact two-seater was built by race-car constructor Bob McKee and employed an eight-horsepower electric motor and a dozen six-volt batteries. Driving range was “excellent, but the size is a bit small for city traffic,” according to an MT report in our April 1974 issue.

Im Jahr 1958 kam der erste Teil des Dokumentarfilms Traumstraße der Welt des deutschen Produzenten und Regisseurs Hans Domnick in die Kinos; Traumstraße der Welt - 2. Teil folgte 1961. Der Film zeigt ausgewählte Schauplätze entlang des Streckenverlaufs der Panamericana. 1968 wurde der international vielbeachtete Zweiteiler in einer gekürzten Fassung unter dem Titel Panamericana - Traumstraße der Welt erneut in die Kinos gebracht.
