Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892) is widely recognized as the last great master of Ukiyo-e, a type of Japanese woodblock printing (literally meaning “pictures of the floating world”). He is additionally regarded as one of the form’s greatest innovators. His career spanned two eras – the last years of Edo period Japan, and the first years of modern Japan following the Meiji Restoration. This series of coloured woodblock prints were produced in 1882. Miku Hatsune ist eine von dem japanischen Mangaka und Illustrator KEI für Crypton Future Media entworfene virtuelle Figur. Sie wurde als Maskottchen der Software Hatsune Miku, einer künstlichen Gesangsstimme, im Jahr 2007 das erste Mal der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt und erlangte weitreichende Bekanntheit. 2008 wurde Miku Hatsune zur ersten synthetischen Pop-Ikone.

Lilian May Miller (1895 - 1943) was an American painter, woodblock printmaker and poet. Miller lived her life “between two worlds”, connecting two hemispheres — the East and the West, as well as the feminine and the masculine. In the world of art she marked her place with imagery, while she attended presentations in traditional kimonos, and signed her paintings with a monogram. In her personal life she hiked California’s San Gabriel Mountains and wandered through Alaska. She never married and she supported herself solely through the sale of her art.
